The Buzz , The Humm, Well Just the Sounds of Spring

Across the country fly fishermen are out in full force after the wary trout, the sea run striper or the dropback steelie. And all we here when we are out are all the noises that Spring has finally arrived. Or maybe it hasn't? With all the crazy weather we have all been having, I know here in PA we have gone from almost 90 degrees a few weeks ago back into the 20's at night and highs of 50 during the day. So all theo sounds you are hearing are they the normal sounds you would hear this time of year? In some cases yes but on the same hand no. Sure fishing has been stellar, just about everywhere. I mean come on the Upper Delaware system has been on fire, as well as some nice tribs in Upper New York. But are we taking this for granted now. Will all this early weather effect our fisheries in the weeks and months to come.

Of course that starts the obvious opinionated arguments by bringing these points to a discussion. But in reality and can be good and bad. The one thing that was not prevalent through these wonderful heat spells we got was rain. So the waters were still where they needed to be, when it was hot it protected the fish as well as it could. And now with rains hitting across the country the last week or two, it brought levels back up the the frightening levels they were at after no rain and no snow pack. So will we seee a little flunctuatuon in out fisheries sure. It's bound to happen every year.

I can tell you though being the networking freak that I am , seeing all these great photos of fish being caught all over the place is nice to see. Will it drop off and then rise back up again , yeppp!! But as long as we work wih other anglers to keep our fisheries healthy, the weather can only play so much havoc on them. I had the chance two weeks ago to fish a creek in Upstate New York, granted there were alot of stockies up there, there were also some really nice holdovers. But the fishery is well taken care of, and some of the fish that were in there, surprised me by their size.

In conclusion, is Spring really here yes and no. Will it stop me from fishing as much as I can no. The weather is what it is my friends, it can and will play havoc with your fisheries as well. But practice catch and release, pick up the trash you see and by all means fish in the rain " I hear it turns the fish on". Celebrate your spring go flyfishing and take a kid out with you , they'll thank you when you get older.

Tight lines
